False Negative Results (test is negative, but you are actually pregnant): a common reason for this test if it was drawn too early (best is to draw at least 7 days after conception to show positive). In this case, the negative result would be due to insufficient hCG in the blood to detect a pregnancy. hCG levels do rise very quickly during early pregnancy. If you believe that you have a falsely negative result because you tested too soon, you should repeat the hCG quantitative test again after waiting 2-3 full days.
False Positive Results (test is positive, but you are not pregnant): very rarely happens. You may get this result if you are taking a medication that contains hCG or due to certain medical issues. Some tumors can also cause this, thus all positive results should be reviewed with your physician.
PREPARATION: To get the most accurate and consistent results, draw ~7+ days after conception.
